Among our most important goals at Magic Apple is to inspire our students with the joy that is learning, and Magic Apple’s living history unit is an experience our students really adore. Camp Western Town students are able to apply our history lessons and then create their own town as they “live” the exciting days of the gold rush. Cooperative learning is emphasized as students work together in multi-aged groups to create original businesses in one of the town’s replica buildings: saloon, general store, café, beauty/barber shop, jail, school, hotel, casino, bank theater, town vet and more!
Our townsfolk work hard so they can earn time to mine— like the California Gold Rush--it’s all about the gold! We have gold rushes, panning for gold nuggets with real mining pans in our own flume, mining claims for those rich enough to buy one, and even an old gold mine for those townsfolk who’ve earned it. We also offer a daily swim option, games, art, dance and drama classes, fun field trips and special experiences for our campers—like our Mud Pit tug-of-war!
