"My daughter Amber attended several years ago. AMAZING school and their influence on the kids is incredibly positive. Lifelong lessons are learned at Magic Apple. She is 24 now and still looks fondly back on her years spent with Jan &Fran"

"Both of my children attended this AMAZING afterschool program. I am more than certain that these two individuals helped to develop my boys into the young men they are today. They also attended the Summer program which was incredible and very informative. They loved learning everyday. I had my youngest enrolled in 3 days a week and he BEGGED for a 5 day a week schedule for his last year. I am not sure where these boys would be without the selfless love and attention from Jan and Fran! I would absolutely recommend this afterschool and Summer camp to anyone interested."

"My daughter attended Magic Apple for two years before we moved out of state. It was the best experience! Jan and Fran are two of the best educators in Santa Cruz County. If you want your child to experience dance, music, science, math, wonder, imagination, joy, and laughter, then you want your child to be part of the Magic Apple Family. My daughter has memories that she will cherish for the rest of her life and she has carried their lessons of friendship and integrity two years later into our new community. I wouldn't have it any other way."

Magic Apple students have direct experiences with Character Education. In acknowledging the outstanding work of our students we have won the United Way Community Service Award, the Good Time’s Heroes of the Community Award and most recently we have been presented with Proclamations on the state, assembly and county levels in recognition of student service. Magic Apple students actively select local and global causes to support in class meetings and work together in pursuing the school motto, "You have not lived a Memorable Day until you have done something for someone who cannot possibly repay you."
ABOUT US
We have worked hard to create a warm and supportive environment that allows students to express themselves with confidence as they interact with their peers. Magic Apple students are lifelong learners, capable of thinking, acting, and working in an independent manner.
Our students also work diligently with the community to support important local and global projects: Get on the Bus, Sister Flora's Orphanage, Food for the Poor, Pajaro Valley Women's Shelter, Annie’s Blankets and many many more have benefitted from the compassion, hard work and commitment of Magic Apple students. Students also created hand made quilts for both an orphanage in Haiti, and one that still hangs in the NY Engine Company 241's department and Ladder Company 109, first responders after the 911 crisis. Each December students choose charities to earn funds for as they donate 100% of admission proceeds from their holiday show. Most recently they have made significant donations to Sister Flora's orphanage in Haiti, Loaves and Fishes in Watsonville, the mid-county homeless coalition's efforts to create mobile showers for our local homeless community, Get on the Bus, and more.
Also unique to Magic Apple is our mindfulness education. Students today, even at the elementary level, report a tremendous and ever increasing amount of stress in their lives. Magic Apple holds weekly all school discussions and it is very often in these safe and supportive peer environments students reveal their worries and fears. Our students of all grades participate joyfully in meditation, gratitude and mindfulness exercises and frequently share how much comfort it brings them.
Magic Apple students have many unique advantages in public speaking and leadership experiences as well. Students campaign for elected offices twice yearly, including giving speeches and. answering questions about their qualifications and interests. After elections monthly class meetings are presented in which all students participate actively in designing the goals and projects of the school. Students also participate in school musical recitals twice annually. Recitation of poetry, choreographed dances in a variety of styles, and songs are presented in a warm and supportive atmosphere for family and friends.
Camp Western Town, our summer program, also offers daily town meetings where all students voice their opinions and ideas. Magic Apple students have unique advantages in the development of important social skills. Much of our program is presented in multi—aged grouping allowing students to work, grow, and learn from each other. Students also learn problem-solving techniques through our unique “hot seat/cold seat" program, teaching the power that comes by dialoguing through conflict. Our students also gain uniquely as cooperative learners and often refer to our school as a family.
